Summer at CPC

Hi Everyone!
I hope you are having a wonderful summer. My family and I have been busy travelling and keeping the boys occupied in this heat. I'm starting to work on the fall activities for the women's ministry, and getting excited for things to come.

The Women's Bible Study led by Janice Deonarine on tuesday mornings is still going strong all summer long. I just joined this week, so don't feel like you can't start a Bible study that is already in progress. We'd love to have you. We're studying Beth Moore's Ester: Its Tough Being a Woman. There're a few weeks left, and then we'll start a new Women's Bible Study for the Fall.

We'll be having a Women's Fellowship Night in early September, so we can reconnect after the summer. We'll be talking about our biggest project since the conference, the holiday outreach tea.

As always, I'd love to hear your ideas about the Women's Ministry and ways you'd like to connect with Christ, each other, and our world!

God Bless,

Lynn

This is a blog article written by Paul Darilek at Living Water International. As we near our Women's Conference on Saturday, I find it incredibly humbling to see what women in other cultures go through each day. Christ Point Church's support of LWI will change lives, it is an amazing opportunity. Let's continue to spread the word.

Women’s Work
Monday, October 27th, 2008 by Paul Darilek

EL SALVADOR - You’ve heard us talk about how hauling water ends up being the work of women—and often children—in the developing world. You’ve seen photos of women walking four miles each way with jugs on their heads. It would be tough work if hauling water was their only job, but it’s not.

Household work—getting the kids off to school, cooking, cleaning, household maintenance and repair—would be a tough enough job if these women had gas or electric stoves, dishwashers, vehicles, and washing machines… but they don’t.

In much of the world breakfast means removing the dried corn from the cob with calloused thumbs, soaking it in water and lye, carrying it to the mill for grinding, lugging the masa back home, further grinding it on a stone. Then you gather firewood, chop it with a machete, make a fire, haul water from a distant source, mix, kneed, and cook.

Now you have a tortilla. Now on to the beans, and eggs, and plantains, which aren’t making themselves…

Then it’s time to start on lunch, which means more wood, more cutting, another fire, kill a chicken (if you’re lucky), pluck it, gut it, more shucking, more picking, more water…
Then off to the river for laundry.

My wife and I can hardly keep up with our two kids and household stuff, and we have a microwave, a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, electric light bulbs, a stove, oven, running water. These women need a break; but there’s dinner to be made.

LWI’s first project in El Salvador was in a place where a family of 8 spent 6 hours hauling enough water for two days. That’s 27 work weeks a year—half a lifetime of work hours—just hauling water.

A well gives them that life back. It gives life to their daughters and their sons. When we talk about giving clean water being giving life, we’re not just talking about the people who would otherwise die (though they are many), but we’re also talking about giving life—we’re talking about the difference between walking to a distant mud-hole so your family can survive another day… versus having time to nuzzle your face into your baby’s belly, hearing her laugh, letting her grab your nose, watching her drool.

THE POINT of our goals

I keep reminding myself what all this work is for. We all do it . . . lose sight of Him while we are caught up in Me. Earthly rewards, praise, compliments, recognition - that's not what our efforts are supposed to be about.

Lately, I've been amazed by the energy and continued creativity I have each day to work on this Women's Ministry. My boys and my husband are still getting cared for and loved. I still have time for almost all the cleaning. How is it all getting done, when before I started this I really didn't have the energy for half of what I am doing now?

The answer is God. He brought me to this church, at this specific time, to work on this specific thing with the goal of glorifying Him. His goal is for us to reach out and find women right where they are today. Whether they are doing great and have it together, or they are just one straw away from their last. He is saying, "go out and find them, and bring them to Me."

In Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus says "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

How many women do you know who could use a little rest for their soul? Bring them. Bring them to church on Sunday. Bring them to the Women's Conference. Let's have 100 women at the conference all singing His praises, hearing His voice, feeling the Holy Spirit, changing their lives, knowing Christ.

We CAN do it. We are the right women for the job, this is the right church and the right time. Something amazing is about to happen right here. Please join me and be a part of it on March 28.

This conference is just the beginning. We are building a fellowship of women that can and will weather any storm in His name, that go out and serve Him and our community, that care for each other and form the lifelong friendships that He intended for us to have. Together we will work towards becoming the women, wives, mothers, daughters, sisters and friends that can hold our community and our families together and spread His love to everyone we meet.

And that, my dear friends, is The Point.

Conference Registration Has Begun!

Print your registration form and send it in today! http://www.christpointchurch.com/pdfs/conference_flyer.htm

Join us for what promises to be an amazing day of renewal for women. Get away from chores, housework, to do lists and whatever else is weighing on your heart and devote just a few hours to reigniting your spark. In 1 Thes. 5:11, we are told "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up."

That might just be my personal scripture for The Point, why I decided to work so hard on this ministry. I want to be God's tool to help build up women. Whether you personally are hurting, stressed or in crisis, or you know another women who is, He can truly provide comfort and peace to your heart.

Wouldn't you like to feel some real peace? Come get involved with us and let God show you how. You don't have to know a thing to start. You don't have to be an expert Christian. We are all "in progress" as we go through this life. Just because you might not have gotten it right up until now doesn't mean you should feel like being a Christian is too hard or too complicated or too demanding.

We're all pretty normal and we have the bumps and bruises to prove it. There is a place for you here. No matter what you look like, how smart you sound when you talk, what clothes you wear or what you have done or not done in your life. You do not need to be a perfectly polished woman to fit in here.

He is waiting for you here. You belong.

March 28, Saturday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm - Growing in Christ Women's Conference (at CPC). Join us for a transformational day of spiritual renewal, worship and fun based on John 15: 1-5:

1"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” 5”I am the vine; you are the branches.”

Has God has been doing some pruning in your life? It can be hard to walk the path He has for us, but he has given us the tools we need to make it easier - His word and good girlfriends to help. Come devote a few hours to recharging and renewing yourself like no day at the spa can. You will leave recommitted to living God’s plan for you and connected to an amazing group of women.
